Kinship Terms in Northern Kurmanji/ Bahdinan Area with Reference to English

Abstract:

As a universal familial relationship in all communities, kinship is based on biological aspects while kinship terms are cultural- bound elements that show variations across communities. The current work is an academic study of kinship terms in Northern Kurmanji/ Bahdinan area. Not only these terms are accounted for from a semantic perspective, but also their interpretation and functions are demonstrated from the Kurdish culture standpoint. There were three basic assumptions put forward as hypotheses of the work of which the first two are verified in the sense that (1) kinship terms come into practice primarily from a biological outlook, seen as a major role; and (2) these terms can serve social functions like addressing relatives, family members, and strangers or they are employed to refer to them as a matter of politeness and to show in case one's humbleness. Contradicting but marginal employment of kinship terms can also come to surfaces, i.e. they are utilized to belittle others, but such a case can only be salient in the situational context where pragmatics plays a seminal role. The third hypothesis (3), on the other hand, has been refuted in the sense that it is possible to make a comprehensive account of kinship terms in Northern Kurmanji/ Bahdinan area.

 كصلة اسرية عالمية في جميع المجتمعلت, القرابه‌ مبنية على جوانب بايولوجيةأما مصطلحاتها فهي عناصر اساسيه‌ مرتبطه‌ بالثقافات و تختلف من مجتمع لاخر. هذا العمل عباره‌ عن دراسه‌ اكاديمية‌ حول مصطلحات القرابة‌ في الكرمانجية الشمالية / منطقة بهدينان.تم شرح هذه المصطلحات ليس فقط من منظور دلالي ولكن أيضًا تم تفسيرها من جانب الثقافة الكردية و إظهار وظائفها. كانت هناك ثلاث فرضيات للبحث حيث تم التحقق من الفرضيتين الاولى و الثانية  حيث أنه (1) يتم توظيف مصطلحات القرابة من‌ منظور بايولوجي كدور أساسي لها. (2) وهذه المصطلحات يمكن أن تخدم الوظائف الاجتماعية مثل التعامل مع الغرباء أو الإشارة إليهم كمسألة كياسة ، مما يدل على تواضع المرء.  و لكن يمكن لوظيفة هامشية متناقضة أن تظهر فيما يتعلق بمصطلحات القرابة‌ ألا و هي التقليل من شأن الاخرين و هذه الحالة تتجلى فقط من خلال السياق الظرفي حيث أن علم اللغة‌ التداولي يلعب دورا اساسيا. و تم دحض (3)  الفرضية الثالثة  حيث أنه من الممكن وضع جدول شامل لمصطلحات القرابة في الكرمانجية الشمالية/ منطقة بهدينان.
